Dr. Robert Gervasi, Mount president, named Distinguished Citizen of the Year

Dr. Robert Gervasi, president of Mount Saint Mary College, was recently named the Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Greater Hudson Valley Council, Scouting America.
The Distinguished Citizen of the Year award is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and leadership in their community, embodying values that resonate with the mission of Scouting. Dr. Gervasi was recognized for his significant contributions and standing within the community.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award,” said Dr. Gervasi. “It’s a testament to the shared values of Mount Saint Mary College and Scouting America – a commitment to leadership, community, and improving the lives of others. I am grateful to the Scouts for this prestigious honor and for their unwavering commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”
The Greater Hudson Valley Council also honored the Crist Bros. Orchards in Walden, N.Y., as the Distinguished Business of the Year. Since 1883, members of the Crist family have been farming in Orange County. The business is thriving to this day, with more than 600 acres of orchards producing a wide variety of high-quality apples.
The event raised more than $30,000 for the Greater Hudson Valley Council, as well as over $9,000 in campership funds.
The Greater Hudson Valley Council, Scouting America serves youth across seven counties: Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan, and Pike. In 2024 alone, the council served 9,159 young people, supported by 3,095 adult volunteers. The council’s work focuses on instilling values and skills in young individuals through the Scouting program.
