Mount Saint Mary College is proud to announce the creation of the Joseph F. Maloney Memorial Investment Lab, located in the School of Business.
Construction has already begun and the lab will be open in time for the start of Fall 2025 semester.
The lab is named in memory of Joseph F. Maloney III, a longtime friend and supporter of the college who passed away in October of 2022. It’s being funded through a gift to the college from his wife and former Mount trustee, Susan Maloney.
The investment lab will feature 12 financial terminals and a ticker display. Mount Business students – especially those studying Finance – will enjoy hands-on, real-world experience in trading and investment analysis.
“I am absolutely delighted to provide these terminals for Mount Saint Mary College,” said Susan. “Joe had such a deep love for following the stock market. I can still picture him completely engrossed in the ticker! With this gift, I have the joy of passing on Joe’s passion for finance, banking, and the market to Mount Business students for years to come.”
The terminals will provide real-time and historical data, market news, and analytics. They will also feature connectivity to trading platforms and a global system to communicate securely and reliably.
The lab will serve as a resource for both students and professors. It will enable students to become familiar with tools used in financial services, reinforcing classroom theory, while professors can use it to further their own educational research.
With contributions from other friends, Susan and another former Mount trustee, Peter Olympia, have also honored Joseph’s memory by funding an endowed scholarship. This scholarship, first unveiled at the end of 2022, is given annually to an outstanding senior from the Mount’s School of Business.
